We recently stayed at La Truffe Noire in Brive-la-Gaillarde for one night and was thoroughly impressed with the hotel. Located in the heart of the old town, it’s ideally situated for exploring the largest city of the Corrèze Department in SW France.
We stayed in a Prestige Double Room, and it was an absolute delight! The giant bed was a highlight, giving us an excellent night’s sleep. The room was a very good size, a must when travelling with a bouncy dog! It was well-equipped with all the essentials and some nice extra touches, including a mini fridge, a kettle, a coffee machine, a safe, and plenty of plug sockets. I particularly appreciated that the hotel provided glass glasses instead of plastic goblets, which made the room feel a bit more upscale. Other amenities included bathrobes, shampoo, shower gel, soft and fluffy bath towels and flannels, a portable mirror, a clock, and a phone in the room. There was also air conditioning and heating, which made the room comfortable no matter the temperature. There is also the option of a laundry service.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, making check-in a breeze. 24-hour reception is a great perk, and the team were always on hand if you needed anything, including daily newspapers. There is a lift, and the hotel has disabled access. Check in is from 3pm and checkout by midday – you do have the option of luggage storage if you are not quite ready to leave the city!
Although we didn't dine at the hotel’s on-site restaurant, it’s great to know there’s a dining option available. The hotel also boasts a beautiful outdoor terrace area, which, when in bloom (unfortunately not in February when we visited), would make for a lovely spot to relax. For 15 euros per person, breakfast is offered, which is a convenient option if you're looking to start your day with a meal at the hotel. There is also the option of room service.
The hotel is dog (and cat) friendly, which is a bonus for pet owners, and the charge is just 7 euros per animal.
Parking is available at the hotel for a reasonable 8 euros per night, which is excellent value considering the location. There is also an electric car charging point—a thoughtful addition for those traveling with electric vehicles.
The location is fantastic, right in the centre of the old town and just a short walk from local attractions like the weekly market. It’s a very comfortable, well-equipped hotel with excellent staff, and we would highly recommend it for anyone visiting Brive-la-Gaillarde.
The value was excellent, especially considering the amenities and the central location.
Local tax – tax de Sejour is just 1,70 euros per person.
We would definitely return to La Truffe Noire for another stay in the future!
